A young man has gone viral on social media after he revealed that he keeps a large python in his house as a form of security.
In a trending video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the man explained that he placed the python near his entrance door to scare off anyone who might attempt to break in.
At the start of the clip, he said: “Just in case you feel like opening the door to the entrance of my apartment, let me show you something.”
He then moved towards the door, and to the surprise of viewers, a huge python was seen lying quietly in one corner near the entrance.
The man did not stop there. He went on to display the snake’s cage, showing how he cleaned it. In the video, he was seen removing the reptile’s waste, changing the sand, and arranging the space to keep the python comfortable.
The video has sparked heated reactions online, with many people questioning the safety and wisdom of keeping such a dangerous animal as a pet. Some argued that the snake could be harmful, while others wondered why anyone would take such a risk in the first place.
A social media user identified as Valyb wrote: “Pet keee, if that python dies all eim investment go crumble 🤣.”
Another user, Ihunanya, strongly criticised the act, saying it was unnecessary and unsafe in Nigeria. She commented: “Nigeria is not like Europe, where you can easily access proper medication or emergency care. Keeping such a pet in Nigeria is useless, unless there’s another reason he isn’t willing to share. Snake is a wild creature and shouldn’t be kept as pets.”
While some people found the act amusing, others expressed fear, warning that the python could one day turn against its owner or pose danger to neighbours.
