A Nigerian social media user, Kelvin Onovo, has sparked widespread debate online after sharing a disturbing story about a marriage that reportedly ended under controversial circumstances.
The story, posted on X (formerly Twitter), details how a man allegedly divorced his wife after she was kidnapped and later released, citing disobedience and suspicion as his reasons.
Husband’s Instructions and Wife’s Decision
According to the account, the man had travelled abroad, leaving behind two cars in Nigeria for his wife’s use. He reportedly instructed her to drive one vehicle while avoiding the other, described as a larger, jeep-like car.
The wife was said to have followed the instruction for a while. However, she later decided to use the restricted vehicle for a single outing to attend a friend’s birthday celebration.
That decision, according to the narration, marked the beginning of a troubling chain of events.
Kidnap Incident and Delayed Response
On her way back from the birthday event, the woman was reportedly kidnapped. The kidnappers later contacted her husband to demand ransom for her release.
The story claims that the husband initially refused to pay the ransom. During this period, the woman allegedly remained in captivity for about two weeks.
It was only after repeated pleas that the man eventually paid a sum of five million naira, leading to her release.
Divorce After Release Sparks Outrage
Rather than welcoming his wife back, the man reportedly chose to end the marriage shortly after her return. When questioned by his in-laws, he allegedly cited two main reasons.
First, he claimed the woman disobeyed his instruction by driving the car he had asked her to avoid.
Secondly, he expressed lingering doubts, suggesting the possibility that the kidnappers may have sexually violated her.
He reportedly admitted that he could not stop thinking about the situation, especially as he considered his wife “very beautiful.”
