Man from Ngomeni in Mwingi North, Kitui County, is recovering after a venomous cobra bit him on his genital area in a shocking incident at his home.
Benard Kyalo recounted the painful ordeal during an interview with a local TV station on Monday, February 16, 2026. According to Kyalo, he had stepped out to relieve himself when the snake struck unexpectedly.
“Jana saa kumi na moja hivi nilikua nyumbani kwangu nikasikia haja kubwa, nikaenda msalani kujisaidia. Kabla sijamaliza, nyoka aliniuma sehemu ya siri,” he said.
Kyalo explained that as he was finishing up, the cobra attacked, biting him in his private parts. Despite the intense pain and panic, he managed to fight off the snake and push it back into a hole nearby. However, the damage had already been done.
The bite caused excruciating pain and severe swelling, prompting his family to rush him to a nearby health facility for urgent medical attention. Dr. Peter Musyoka, who treated Kyalo, confirmed that the injury was serious due to the sensitivity of the affected area and the potency of cobra venom.
“Sehemu ya siri ilikuwa imevimba sana na ilionyesha athari kubwa ya sumu ya nyoka. Tulimpatia sindano ya antivenom na matibabu ya kuimarisha,” the doctor stated.
He emphasised the importance of seeking immediate treatment following any snakebite, noting that delays can lead to life-threatening complications.
The incident comes amid growing concern over rising snakebite cases in Kitui County. Health officials previously revealed that between 2020 and 2024, at least 1,939 snakebite cases were reported in public health facilities.
Authorities believe the actual number could be higher, as some victims opt for private treatment or traditional remedies instead of seeking hospital care.See_More…
