A Nigerian man has sparked intense conversation on social media after expressing concern about how some men in the country behave around decent and attractive women.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the man criticised the behaviour of men who become overly fascinated or act irrationally whenever they come across women who are decently dressed and good-looking.
... came shortly after a video of a young girl assisting her mother in the market went viral. The clip attracted attention from some men who began requesting her account details, allegedly to send her money because of her beauty.
“It’s Okay for Beautiful Women to Live Normal Lives”
Expressing his disapproval, the man wrote: “It’s okay for beautiful girls/women to live normal lives and do normal jobs.
“The way Nigerian men behave around any decently good looking girl is disturbing.
“Then you turn around and complain when they build their entire entity around their looks.”
He went on to criticise men who indulge in such behaviour, saying: “That’s why your classmate in 100l will tell you you’re not her mate because one shameless working class man that never had pussy when growing up is buying her love. Meanwhile abroad, people date their agemates and classmates.”
Mixed Reactions Trail the Post
... ignited a flurry of reactions on X, with many users offering diverse opinions on the issue.
A user identified as Chinny commented: “It is called beauty privilege, and it happens worldwide, though especially in entertainment fields. If you don’t have good looks at first glance, you need to focus on other areas like talent, hardwork, social skills to stand out. Men have inheritance privileges and so on…”
Another user, Ben, disagreed, arguing that such behaviour is peculiar to Nigerian men. He wrote: “This level of stupidity doesn’t happen worldwide. It’s unique to Nigerian men. Abroad, dead ass gorgeous women work at restaurants, with the police, as receptionists without anybody offering to ‘dash’ them money as a ‘big man.’ It’s disgusting and reprehensible.”
“Comments Like She’s Too Beautiful to Be Selling in the Market Are the Problem”
Laulau Pikin also joined the discussion, writing: “This comment is for the men trying to justify their help with her beauty and not those helping cause of the situation. Comments like she’s too beautiful to be selling in the market is the target of this comment. Am I wrong???”
“Fine Girls Should Not Automatically Have Life Easier”
Adding his thoughts, Scorepion wrote: “I wonder who said fine girls/women should automatically have life easier. Cos I am a fine man and nobody is giving me handouts as a result. Infact, the football I play, Coaches automatically assume I can’t really play cos I look good lol.
“Any small thing, ‘a fine girl like this should not be walking under the sun’. so ńa ugly girl and boys suppose dey walk under the sun?? Or the girl cannot make things happen for herself that she won’t walk under the sun anymore?
“They do these things and the girls will consequently think they are above people that are actually above and/or on their level (perfect example: her classmate). A proper messed up foolery championed and fueled by men.”
Ongoing Online Debate
... continues to trend on X as many Nigerians debate issues of beauty privilege, gender perception, and the societal attitudes that shape male and female interactions.
