Man follows girlfriend to university out of love, ends up watching her date a 400L student instead

A Nigerian student has stirred emotional reactions online after revealing that he chose his university because of his girlfriend, only to find out she is now dating another student.

In a viral post shared on social media, the young man confessed that he picked the same university while in SS3, hoping to continue his relationship after secondary school.

“I picked this school because my girlfriend was coming here,” he said. “At first, I thought I wouldn’t get admission, but I did. Now she has a boyfriend in 400 level, and I’m just here focusing on my education.”

The emotional tone of his post reflected his frustration and heartbreak, with many sympathising with his experience of youthful love and betrayal. Some users, however, saw it as a life lesson in prioritising one’s future over emotions.

Online reactions show mixed emotions

The story has since attracted hundreds of comments, with users sharing their opinions on love, loyalty, and life decisions. One commenter wrote, “You followed her for love, she followed senior man for lunch,” mocking the irony of the situation.

Others advised the young man to move on and focus on his goals. “Make the guy focus on building his career abeg, that girl fit later get belle and drop out of school,” another wrote.

However, not everyone was sympathetic. Some commenters blamed the student for his naivety, calling his decision a lesson in emotional maturity. “This man shouldn’t be called a man because he acts like a boy and doesn’t understand women’s nature,” a user commented harshly.

Calls for focus and self-improvement

While the heartbreak drew laughter and pity in equal measure, many Nigerians used the opportunity to encourage self-development among young men. Several users advised him to channel his pain into success rather than regret.

One comment read, “Focus on yourself, make money online, and prioritise your academics. That’s the best revenge. When you’re successful, women will naturally come.”

The viral post has since become a talking point on social media about the impulsive choices people make in the name of love, and how early relationships can sometimes cloud judgment during critical life decisions such as education.
