A heartbreaking story shared online has sparked strong reactions after a lady revealed how a father broke down in tears upon discovering the truth about his sons’ education.
According to her account, the emotional moment happened in an office after a man travelled from Ghana to Nigeria to check on his children’s academic progress.
Father’s Visit Uncovers Hidden Truth
The lady explained that the man had visited the office the previous day to ask about the academic progress of his two sons.
She said the father and the boys’ mother live in Ghana, while the children were studying in Nigeria. For three years, he had been asking them to provide updates about their studies.
However, the boys had allegedly been giving him false information.
A few days before the visit, the man quietly travelled from Ghana to Nigeria without informing his children. He decided to confirm their progress personally.
When he arrived at the school, a senior administrator asked him to return the following day so their academic files could be retrieved.
Files Reveal Abandoned Education
The lady explained that the father returned the next morning, hoping to hear good news about his children’s academic performance.
Instead, the truth shocked him. According to the records, the boys had indeed gained admission into the school. Their acceptance fees and first-year tuition had also been paid successfully.
However, after having carryovers in their first year, they reportedly abandoned their studies completely.
Despite dropping out, the sons allegedly continued to request money from their parents every month.
Three Years of Lies
The father, according to the account, had been sending ₦300,000 monthly for the boys’ upkeep.
He also paid for their accommodation, school fees, and other needs throughout the period. Unknown to him, the children had already stopped attending school.
For three years, they allegedly continued to collect money from home while hiding the truth. When the files were finally presented and the reality became clear, the father could not hold back his emotions.
The lady wrote: “I have never seen a father cry in public until this morning.
Yesterday, a man came to the office to ask about his sons’ academic progress. He and their mother live in Ghana, and for three years he has been asking the boys to send updates about school.
A few days ago, he travelled from Ghana to Nigeria without informing them. He came to the school yesterday, but the senior admin asked him to return today so their files could be retrieved.
This morning, the truth came out. Yes, the boys gained admission. Yes, their acceptance fees and first-year school fees were paid.
But after having carryovers in their first year, they abandoned school completely. Yet every month, they kept collecting money from home. This man sends ₦300,000 monthly for their upkeep.
He paid for accommodation, school fees, and everything they needed. For three years, they lied. Not one of them pitied their father.
When the files were brought out and the truth was revealed, the man just burst into tears in the office. That was the first time in my life I saw a father cry like that.”

Public Reactions
Many social media users reacted emotionally to the story, expressing sympathy for the father and disappointment in the children.
Oreofe wrote: “The heartbreak on that father’s face is unbearable. He gave his children everything especially education, money, care and they repaid him with lies and deceit for three years. Life has a way of balancing things, their betrayal won’t go unnoticed, and karma has a way of teaching hard lessons.”
Beniwinn wrote: “This is heartbreaking. A father’s silence is often his greatest strength, so when he breaks like that, you know the pain is deep. It’s a reminder that behind every Naira sent home is a story of sacrifice we might never fully see. We have to do better by our parents.”
Dayvid wrote: “He cried because all his efforts and sacrifices have been wasted. It is very painful. The boys have just made all his efforts go in vain. Will be very difficult to heal from this. He might have even gone as far as borrowing to ensure they have the best of everything.”
Vicson wrote: “This story is heartbreaking.Making mistakes is one thing, but taking advantage of a parent’s trust and support for three years is betrayal. It hurts deeply, especially when the parent has given money, time, and love to help them succeed.”
Otaroghene wrote: “Unfortunately this is not unusual especially in public institutions, one way to mitigate is to automate and issue both a parental & ward access so that performance can be monitored. An email address and or phone number should be provided in case there is need for clarification.”
