By Olawale Akinremi

A 35-year-old man, Taiwo Adewumi, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Mapo, Ibadan, for allegedly impersonating a staff member of an automobile repair company.

Adewumi, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of impersonation brought against him.

Consequently, the magistrate, Mrs O. O. Latunji, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Latunji added that each surety must provide a valid identification card.

She, thereafter, adjourned the suit until Aug. 18 for trial.

The prosecutor, Insp Oluseye Akinola, had earlier informed the court that the defendant committed the crime sometime in June, within the premises of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

Akinola said the defendant allegedly impersonated an auto mechanic to the complainant, Gbenga Stephen, who gave him his car for repairs.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant disappeared with the car before he was later arrested.

The prosecutor noted that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Law of Oyo State 2000. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
