A few hours after the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest began in Abuja, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reacted.
Olayinka, in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), mocked the protest organiser, Omoyele Sowore, describing him as a “Cashtivist.”
Protest Disrupted by Security Operatives
Earlier on Monday morning, Sowore, alongside Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s brother, and several others, launched the protest demanding Kanu’s release.
However, the demonstration reportedly turned chaotic after Nigerian security operatives fired teargas to disperse the protesters. Reports later claimed that Kanu’s lawyer, his brother, and others were arrested during the unrest.
Olayinka Questions Sowore’s Mobilisation
Reacting to the incident, Olayinka questioned Sowore’s ability to mobilise supporters, suggesting that the activist misjudged the situation.
He wrote: “But what happened to all the Igbo people Cashtivist Sowore mobilised for this protest?
“Cashtivist Sowore think say Ibo people will close their shops to come and protest in support of someone who caused the death of their fellow Igbo men and women.
“Make him sha return the money he collected.”
His post has since stirred mixed reactions on social media, with some users defending Sowore’s activism while others supported Olayinka’s remarks.
