Sen. Pam Dachungyang, the only Action Democratic Party (ADP) senator in the upper chamber, on Thursday, defected to All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dachungyang’s letter was read at plenary by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The lawmaker, representing Plateau North Senatorial District, indicated in the letter that his decision followed extensive consultations with his constituents, political associates and stakeholders.
Dachungyang also said that his defection was informed by the need to align with a political platform that best reflects his commitment to good governance, inclusive development and overall interests of the people of his senatorial district.
“My defection is also necessitated by irreconcilable differences and persistent internal wrangling within the Action Democratic Party,” he said.
All these put together, the senator said, had hindered his ability to effectively contribute to ADP’s ideals and deliver quality representation to his constituents.
“I am confident that the All Progressives Congress provides a more stable, a more progressive platform through which I can continue to serve my constituency and the nation with renewed focus and dedication.
“Kindly accept this letter as my formal notification, in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and please accept me into the fold of the APC, and also accept the assurances of my highest regard,” he stated.
In his remarks, Akpabio welcomed the lawmaker and wished him well.
