A Nigerian lawyer has gone viral on social media after sharing how she tactfully handled her landlord’s sudden attempt to increase her rent.

The female lawyer, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @ChisomAgbafor, narrated that her landlord recently informed her of a rent increase without giving any valid reason.
Surprised by the sudden change, she decided not to argue verbally but instead responded in a way that completely turned the situation around.
Her Smart Move That Changed Everything
Rather than confronting her landlord emotionally, the lawyer said she wrote him a formal letter, asking him to justify the reason for the rent increment.
She explained that after sending the letter, the landlord never repliedand never increased the rent either.
In her words:
“My landlord tried to increase my rent, so I wrote him a letter asking him to justify the increment. He never replied and he never increased it either.”
Landlord’s Funny Reaction Afterwards
According to her, the incident changed how her landlord related to her.
She revealed that he began calling her a Yoruba nickname whenever they met, saying:
“…since that day, anytime he sees me, he just shakes his head and says: ‘Omo Igbo ti o ní ekó, wahala lo gbé wá si ilé mi.’”
Unsure of what the phrase meant, the lawyer turned to social media for help, asking her followers whether the statement was meant as a compliment or an insult.
