Engineer Shyngle Wigwe, father of the late Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe, has refuted claims suggesting he is in a dispute with his grandchildren over his late son’s inheritance.
Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and their eldest son tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the United States in February 2024. Since then, widespread rumors have circulated online alleging a family rift over the vast estate left behind by the late banker.
Rumours of family rift
According to the reports, the 90-year-old patriarch was purportedly engaged in a legal and emotional battle with Herbert’s children to claim control of his son’s assets.
Wigwe denies rumours
However, in a recent interview with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Engineer Wigwe firmly dismissed the allegations, describing them as baseless fabrications.
“How can I want to claim Herbert’s properties? Who is the best person to defend Herbert’s properties? The father or a friend? The Father at 90 years? My grandchildren are there! Haba! I beg your pardon! How many more days have I got to live? So what will I do with Herbert’s properties? I trained Herbert. I brought him up, not a single penny from anybody went in to bringing Herbert up? The mother is here.
What will I do with Herbert’s wealth?” he queried.
He clarified that at his advanced age, he has no interest in his late son’s wealth, stressing that his only focus now is on peace, family unity, and preserving Herbert’s legacy.
