LASEMA Probes Ebute Meta Building Collapse, Confirms 10 Casualties

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has launched a full investigation into last Friday’s building collapse at Ebute Meta, which has so far claimed four lives and left six others rescued alive.

LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said on Monday that the inquiry will involve material testing and technical assessments by relevant authorities to determine the cause of the incident. He stressed that the government’s priority remains safeguarding lives and preventing future tragedies.

“We are mobilising all necessary agencies to carry out a thorough investigation,” Oke-Osanyintolu said, adding that residents must cooperate by following building regulations and reporting unsafe structures.

He confirmed that casualty figures remain subject to verification but assured that rescue efforts were ongoing with caution and professionalism. Heavy-duty equipment has been deployed, and emergency teams have been working continuously since the collapse.

Oke-Osanyintolu emphasized the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to strict enforcement of building codes but urged residents to complement government action by adhering to approved standards.

“The safety of Lagos residents is paramount. We urge everyone to remain calm and allow rescue operations to proceed without disruption,” he said.
