Security analyst Dr. Yahuza Getso has raised alarm over what he described as troubling links between armed groups and foreign interests operating within Nigeria, pointing specifically to activities in Sokoto State.
He made the disclosure while discussing the country’s porous security system and the growing complexity of threats posed by insurgents and bandits.
Getso spoke during an interview on Trust TV, where he assessed the evolving security landscape, including the roles played by local and emerging armed factions. His comments come amid persistent concerns over the operations of groups such as Boko Haram, bandit networks, and the relatively new Lakurawa group.
Clarifying his earlier remarks, Getso stated that Lakurawa operatives are allegedly involved in providing protection for foreign entities. He said, “I have proven evidence of an area in Sokoto State where they are providing cover for foreigners or foreign company.” He explained that this points to a disturbing trend where non-state actors assume roles typically reserved for formal security institutions.
According to him, such arrangements, if left unchecked, could undermine national sovereignty and further weaken already strained security structures. He warned that allowing armed groups to offer protection services to foreign companies or individuals creates a parallel security system that may be difficult to regulate.
