Laide Bakare clears air after backlash over taking daughter to club at 17

Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has responded to the heavy criticism she received following her controversial statement about taking her daughter, Similoluwa, to a nightclub at the age of 17.

In a recent conversation with content creator Mr Lil Gaga, Bakare revealed that she was the one who gave her daughter her first club experience and even let her taste alcohol, explaining that it was part of preparing her for adulthood.

The statement quickly stirred online outrage, with many Nigerians accusing the actress of being irresponsible and fueling stereotypes that “single mothers can’t raise children properly.”

Reacting to the backlash, Bakare took to Instagram to clarify her comments, insisting that her words had been misunderstood. She shared a video from her daughter’s birthday afterparty, explaining that she never said she introduced her to alcohol.

“Let me mention clearly here that I never said I introduced my daughter, @simlineboss, to alcohol. I only stated that she entered a club with me for the very first time in her life at her birthday afterparty. How is that bad naw?” she wrote.

In another post, she added, “No please, I didn’t do alcohol with @simlineboss, only club, and it’s just to give her a bit of exposure towards the future. I’m not as bad as you think.”
