The Lagos State Police Command has foiled a planned invasion of a commercial bank and restored calm to the busy Tejuosho Market after a violent disturbance on Thursday.
According to the command, 18 suspects described as hoodlums and miscreants were arrested in connection with the attack.
In a statement issued Friday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, the command warned that violent attacks on law enforcement and property would not be tolerated.“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reiterates that violent attacks on police personnel and destruction of property will not be condoned,” Oluseyi stated.
The incident occurred on September 18, 2025, around 2:30 p.m., when the command received a distress call that hoodlums were attacking traders, vandalizing goods, and attempting to overrun a commercial bank within the market.
Police reports revealed that Mobile Policemen stationed at the bank repelled the attackers, preventing them from gaining entry. Following the call for backup, additional forces — including Anti-Riot Squads and tactical teams — were swiftly deployed to the scene.“The combined efforts of the police units successfully dispersed the violent crowd, secured the bank, and protected customers,” the statement added.
The 18 arrested suspects are now in custody, while investigations continue to track other individuals involved in the assault.
The command urged Lagos residents and traders in Tejuosho Market to go about their normal activities without fear, assuring them that peace and order have been fully restored.
The development comes a week after police operatives arrested two suspected cultists with a firearm in Akoka, amid ongoing efforts to clamp down on violent groups in Lagos. The command also dismissed reports that three people were killed in a cult clash at Lakowe, Ibeju-Lekki, clarifying that no fatalities occurred.
