The Agege Local Government has partnered the Lagos Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to strengthen collaborative efforts aimed at curbing drug abuse in the community.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that its Chairman, Mr Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, paid a courtesy visit to the NDLEA Lagos Strategic Commander, Abubakar Liman Wali, on Thursday.

The visit was to collaborate on ways to curb drug abuse and use of substances in the community.

Obasa who reaffirmed the council’s unrelenting commitment to tackling drug abuse, described it as one of the most urgent threats to societal stability.

‘’The infiltration of drugs into homes, schools and public spaces continue to endanger young people; my administration will not allow such a threat to take root in Agege,” he said.

He added that the council was prepared to work closely with relevant agencies to build a safer environment defined by discipline, responsible living and strong communal values.

“A secure community is never a coincidence; it is the outcome of leadership that confronts challenges with courage and conviction,” he said.

The chairman vowed to protect the dreams and future of Agege youths.

Responding, Wali commended the chairman’s proactive leadership, describing the visit as a clear demonstration of sincerity and readiness for meaningful partnership.

He noted that the NDLEA remained open to collaborating with stakeholders, who were committed to both supply and demand reduction in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.

“The renewed cooperation between Agege Local Government and the NDLEA marks a significant step towards coordinated action, signalling a shared vision for a healthier and more secure community.

“The partnership will strengthen ongoing efforts to curb drug-related activities, promote youth development and reinforce public safety across Agege,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
