Lady who thought UK was expensive laments after returning to Nigeria, says Nigeria is even ‘worse’

A Nigerian lady who recently returned from the UK has gone viral after sharing her struggles with the high cost of living in Nigeria.

The returnee expressed shock over how her expenses in Nigeria have far exceeded what she used to spend abroad.

Returning from the UK

The lady, identified as @melissa_oti on TikTok, shared her experiences since relocating to Nigeria.

She revealed that despite her careful planning, she finds herself spending much more than expected.

My budget for each month, I find myself exceeding it. Is it just me? Because I don’t understand what is going on. Am I being extravagant? Am I not budgeting well?” she said in the viral video.

Car Repairs and Insurance Differences

One of her major complaints centers on car expenses.

She explained that in the UK, insurance usually covers repair costs, but in Nigeria, she had to pay a significant amount out-of-pocket to fix her car.

She also noted that other repairs, such as a broken phone screen, could add to her mounting expenses.

Food Costs Hitting Hard

The returnee admitted that food prices in Nigeria have also impacted her budget.

She explained that her monthly expenditure on meals now exceeds what she would spend in the UK.

Just know I have been spending way more than that I used to spend in the UK on feeding,” she lamented.

Fueling Costs Adding Pressure

She further revealed that fuel expenses also affected her finances.

She pointed out that the standard of living she was used to abroad makes it difficult to adjust to the rising costs in Nigeria.

She questioned how locals manage their finances given the current economic conditions.

Struggling to Balance Budget and Lifestyle

The lady concluded that the math does not add up when comparing her spending with Nigeria’s minimum wage.

She expressed concern over whether her lifestyle is considered extravagant or if the high costs are simply unavoidable in the country.

The video has sparked discussion online, with many viewers sharing their opinions and thoughts.
