A young lady has expressed frustration after her friend, who copied her CV format, secured two job interviews in one week, while she has received none.
The lady, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said she shared her CV and cover letter format with her friend so she can follow her format.
However, to her surprise, her friend got invited to two interviews within two weeks, while she has been submitting applications for months without any success.
Shared Format, Different Outcomes
She wrote: “Sent my CV and cover letter to a friend and asked her to follow my format. She got two interviews in the space of one week. Gosh, I’m not saying I’m not happy for her but that’s the same CV and cover letter format I’ve been using for months, yet no response.”
... has gone viral, sparking reactions from social media users who shared various opinions and advice.

David Dizi commented: “Sometimes it’s not just about the format but the content of the CV, and also the particular role being applied for.”
Chinonso added: “Delay doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Rejection is redirection and protection. The problem is that we compare other people’s timeliness to ours. When you understand that we’re all running a different race, you understand grace.”
Omo’meji observed: “I feel like it was easier for her cause she’s in Lagos (like you mentioned). Lagos has a wide range of different job opportunities. I know someone in Ibadan job hunting for jobs in Lagos and she usually gets called for interviews in Lagos.”
Damilola also shared a similar story: “Honestly this is me but mine was my sister. I literally recreated my CV for her and she got a job. Location really matters too. Just find something doing — online business or learn a tech skill. Your miracle is near.”
