The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed viral voice notes circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms alleging the presence of bandits in parts of the state, describing them as false and baseless.
In a statement issued today, the Command said extensive intelligence analysis, surveillance, and community feedback revealed no evidence of bandit activity within the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, assured residents that officers remain vigilant and fully deployed across all divisions to maintain security. He urged citizens to ignore unverified information and continue their normal activities.
The Command also cautioned the public against spreading fake news capable of inciting fear, noting that such actions are punishable under Section 114 of the Penal Code and Section 24(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 — which prescribes up to three years imprisonment or a ₦7 million fine.
Residents were advised to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s Complaints Response Unit (CRU) via 08078255661, 07065774464, 08125275046, or 07032069501.
