The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the release of six vigilante members who were earlier arrested by Nigerian Army personnel along the Auchi–Ikpeshi Road in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to the police, the vigilantes—travelling in a vehicle belonging to Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State—were handed over to the command on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, for investigation and profiling. The handover was carried out by the Brigade Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, Brigadier General N.N. Rume.
Police investigations established that the individuals are bona fide members of a recognised vigilante group working in collaboration with authorised security agencies as part of ongoing efforts to curb banditry and other criminal activities. The command said no evidence of criminal wrongdoing was found against them.
Following their clearance, the six vigilantes were released to their respective leaders.
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to cooperation among security agencies and community-based security outfits. He urged such groups to continue operating strictly within the law.
The police also assured residents that the command remains resolute in its mandate to safeguard lives and property across the state.
