A concerned Nigerian has named the people he believes citizens should hold accountable for the gruesome church attack in Kwara State.
He shared his view on X (formerly Twitter), where he stressed that the governor, lawmakers, and other representatives must answer for the tragedy.
Calls for accountability after Kwara attack
The user, identified as Naijashimadun, clearly stated that the attack should not be blamed on distant authorities in Abuja.
He wrote: “Kwara has a governor, state and federal lawmakers, and representatives, yet no one holds them accountable.”
He added: “Instead, everyone rushes to Abuja to demand state security from the presidency. The sooner we start holding our local officials accountable, the better.”
His post quickly generated mixed reactions as netizens debated who should carry the blame for insecurity in the state.
Mixed reactions from Nigerians online
Bello Sa’ad agreed with the position and wrote: “You’re absolutely right. Governance starts at the local and state levels, and our leaders there must be held accountable for security lapses. We can’t keep bypassing them and expecting Abuja to solve everything.
“Until we demand responsibility from those directly in charge of our communities, we’ll keep repeating the same cycle. Everyone has a role to play, but local officials can’t continue hiding behind the federal government.”
Another user, S-Badman, criticised citizens for overlooking local leaders.
He said: “I honestly don’t know why we jump the local govt, chairman, reps and governors and run to president at every glance of trouble, hold your governors for blokos, na dem suppose dey run go president, deal with people attainable, people that live in your community. Don’t be cowards.”
Debate on powers of governors
However, others disagreed and argued that governors have limited control over security.
Semahdee said: “Education is good. If you go school, you go know say na President dey control all securities in Nigeria. Governor doesn’t even control sh*t! Until we start having State and Local police, then we can start holding others apart from the Governors accountable!!”
Myka_veli also insisted that the federal government holds the main responsibility.
He wrote: “Are the governors and law makers the ones in charge of the security architecture in the state? Your president himself said ‘if it comes to security, the bulk stops at the president’s table’ so why are y’all making excuses for them?”
