Kwara Church Attack: Man in US shares what saved lives of 38 viral kidnapped church members

A Nigerian man living in the United States (US) has shared what allegedly contributed to the safe release of 38 worshippers kidnapped from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State.

Five Days of Fear

The church members were abducted by suspected bandits during a service on Tuesday, November 18.

They spent five days in captivity before being released on Sunday, November 24.

The release was confirmed by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu via his X page, bringing relief to families and the community.

Observation from the US

Michael Taiwo, a Nigerian based in America, reacted to the news on his X account, sharing what he believed ensured the safety of the victims.

According to Taiwo, the incident could have ended tragically if not for global attention.

The Power of a Viral Video

Taiwo emphasized that a video of the attack, which went viral worldwide, played a key role in securing the victims’ release.

“This video saved the lives of the kidnapped worshippers. If this act of terror were not captured in HD for the whole world to see, it would not have sparked the type of international pressure it did,” he wrote.

He added that major U.S. TV stations aired the footage, drawing international attention and prompting swift action.

Criticism of Government Response

Taiwo criticized the Nigerian authorities, suggesting that without international attention, the worshippers might have remained in captivity.

“It’s sickening to note that the Nigerian government simply doesn’t care. Without U.S. pressure, these poor folks would have been left on their own,” he said.
