Killings not targetted at Christians alone – Yoruba Council Worldwide

By Dorcas Elusogbon

Ile-Ife (Osun), Nov. 3, 2025 (NAN) A socio-cultural group, Yoruba Council Worldwide (YCW), has said that the spate of killings across Nigeria over the last two decades is not targetted at only Christians but innocent citizens across all faiths.

The group stated this during at a news conference held at the palace of the Ooni of Ife on Monday.

The President of YCW, Mr Oladotun Hassan, who addressed the news conference on behalf of the group, expressed concern over what he called unending wave of violence and killings which had continued to claim lives of innocent citizens across the country.

Hassan, however, said that the atrocities should not be interpreted as attacks on Christians alone, but as acts of terrorism affecting Muslims, Christians and adherents of other faiths.

“We clarify that the gruesome killings in Nigeria over the last two decades are not exclusively targetted at Christians, but have affected Muslims, Christians and adherents of other faiths alike.

“We condemn these killings in strong terms and insist that all perpetrators, financiers and enablers of terrorism must be brought to justice without delay,” he said.

Hassan called for the intervention of the Ooni, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in facilitating a diplomatic engagement with President Bola Tinubu over pressing national security and economic concerns.

Meanwhile, the group has accused some unions within the petroleum sector, such as PENGASSAN, NUPENG, IPMAN and DAPPMAN of working with oil import cabals and some officials of NNPCL and NMDPRA to undermine Dangote Refinery’s operations through deliberate disruptions and policy manipulations.

It applauded Dangote’s recent ₦2 trillion investment in procuring 10,000 tanker trucks for free distribution of petroleum products nationwide, describing it as a “bold gesture of love and service to Nigeria.”

The group proposed introduction of a “Crude Exploration Nationalisation Policy Synergy Scheme” to guarantee steady crude oil supply to the Dangote Refinery and other local refineries.

It also advocated for imposition of higher import tariff or an outright ban on imported petroleum products to protect Nigeria’s domestic refining industry and ensure sustainability of local investors.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that to consolidate these efforts, the group announced plans for a “Grand Solidarity and Thank You Rally” in support of Dangote Group and Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

NAN also reports that the rally, scheduled for Nov. 12 at JJT Park, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, is expected to feature participants dressing in white and jeans as symbols of peace, unity and patriotism. (NAN)(
