Kebbi: Troops Repel Lakurawa Terrorists’ Attack, Recover Weapons

Troops Recover 17 Motorcycles, AK-47 Rifle, Machine Gun, Ammunition

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North West), under Operation Fansan Yamma, have repelled an attack by suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group on Forward Operating Base Maiyama in Kebbi State.

According to the Theatre Command, the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, October 7, when a large group of armed assailants reportedly arrived on more than 100 motorcycles and launched an assault on the military base.

The attackers were said to be armed with General Purpose Machine Guns and Rocket-Propelled Grenades.

However, troops responded to the attack and forced the assailants to retreat before they could achieve their objective.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the attackers withdrew in disarray, abandoning weapons, equipment and other logistical items.

Following the engagement, troops conducted follow-up operations in the surrounding areas, recovering 17 motorcycles, a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, assorted ammunition and a communication device believed to have been used during the attack.

Danja described the recovery as a setback to the group’s operational capabilities in the area.

He added that the general area remained under military control, with troops continuing patrols, clearance operations and efforts to track fleeing members of the group.

The Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting communities and preventing terrorist groups from operating freely within its area of responsibility.
