Kebbi Police Arrest Theft, Murder Suspects

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested multiple suspects linked to a motorcycle theft syndicate and the killing of a 17-year-old boy in Birnin Kebbi.

Police spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday, reaffirming the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and maintaining public safety.

According to him, two suspects — 22-year-old Muhammad Sa’idu of Kwanga village and Kabiru Suleiman of Warrah town — were arrested on November 20, 2025, for stealing a Bajaj motorcycle from a resident of Warrah. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to belonging to a broader gang operating across Kebbi and Niger States.

A subsequent search of the residence of another suspected gang member, Yahuza Aliyu, led to the recovery of several stolen items, including four motorcycles, two sewing machines, two boat engines, three pumping machines, two generators, two grinding machines, a plasma TV, solar panels, and other valuables—pointing to a well-organised theft ring.

In a separate case, the police arrested 22-year-old Jame Jidda for the murder of 17-year-old Salihu Hassan, who was found in a pool of blood at Ilelaryari, Birnin Kebbi, on November 24. Security operatives and vigilantes rushed the victim to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect stabbed the victim in the neck during an argument.

Commissioner of Police Bello M. Sani condemned the killing and urged young people to shun violence and seek lawful means of resolving disputes. He appealed to youths to always involve authorities rather than resorting to self-help.
