The Kebbi State Hisbah Board has banned all sign-out ceremonies and related gatherings in secondary schools across the state, citing the need to protect youth morals and uphold Islamic teachings.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Director of Shari’a, Surajo Usman Kamba, the Board said the prohibition covers both government and private secondary schools in Kebbi State.
According to the statement, the ban affects any “sign-out” event or celebration linked to the completion of secondary school examinations.
“The Board has prohibited the conduct of any sign-out ceremony or any gathering related to the completion of secondary school examinations,” the statement read.
The Hisbah Board said the action was taken “to protect the morals of young people and to ensure adherence to Islamic teachings and the good values of the people of Kebbi State.”
The Board is calling on parents, school administrators, and other stakeholders to give full cooperation to ensure compliance with the directive.
Sign-out ceremonies, where graduating students gather to celebrate the end of exams, have become common in many Nigerian schools in recent years. However, religious and moral authorities in some northern states have raised concerns over activities associated with such events.
The Kebbi Hisbah Board urged all schools to adhere strictly to the order with immediate effect.
