Kebbi Hisbah arrests three Almajiri children over drug use, launches probe

The Kebbi State Hisbah Board has arrested three Almajiri children suspected of using illicit drugs, as part of its campaign against immoral behavior and to protect societal values.

In a statement released Tuesday, the Board said the children, aged 13, 11, and 10, were apprehended during an operation on June 30, 2026.

Preliminary findings show the boys are from Niger State, Maiyama, and Birnin Kebbi. The Board has begun investigations to determine how they got involved in drug use and to “take appropriate measures.”

Hisbah said it is working with parents, teachers, and other stakeholders “to rescue the children and safeguard their future.”

The Board urged parents, community leaders, and residents to closely monitor children’s upbringing and promptly report any behavior that could expose them to harmful influences.

The arrests highlight ongoing concerns over drug use among vulnerable children, particularly Almajiri pupils who often live away from home for Quranic education.
