The Kebbi State Government has called on Nigerians to intensify prayers for the safe return of the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.
In a statement signed by Kebbi Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Aliu Sarki, on Friday, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Arch. Sani Aliyu, said the state needs deep reflection and strong supplication from all segments of society.
He appealed to religious leaders of all faiths to turn to God, saying, “It is only Allah SWT who can rescue the state from these predicaments and restore peace and comfort.”
Aliyu urged Islamic scholars to offer continuous Qunūt during and after the five daily prayers, especially in the late hours of the night.
He also called on Christian clergymen to “use every available opportunity during sermons to pray for the state and the nation.”
He extended sympathies to the families of the abducted students, the Zuru Emirate, and the school community, assuring them of the government’s support.
Residents were reminded not to assist criminals but instead protect their communities and share information with security agencies.
The statement noted that Governor Nasir Idris had earlier stressed the importance of “intensive and sustained prayers” during visits from Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Labour leaders, and the Minister of State for Defence.
The governor also joined Friday prayers in Argungu, where special supplications were offered for the girls’ release.
The government thanked individuals and groups who have visited to show solidarity and encouraged citizens to remain peaceful and united as security efforts continue.
