The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with culpable homicide in the state.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Monday.
According to the statement, on July 24 at about 12:00pm, a report was received at Sheka Division that one Abubakar Auwal, 30, was allegedly lured by Abubakar Ali, 40, and others over allegations of enticing the wife of Abubakar Ali.
Police operatives who responded to the scene found the victim brutally assaulted and in a comatose state. Three suspects — Abubakar Ali, Sulaiman Lawan, 27, and the married woman, Hafsat Umar, 22 — all of the same address, were arrested.
The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty. The corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Police said investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condemned the act and warned residents to desist from taking the law into their own hands.
“The Nigeria Police Force is constitutionally empowered to investigate, arrest, and prosecute offenders through due process,” the CP said.
He assured the public that the Command will conduct diligent and transparent investigations and that all suspects will be arraigned and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
CP Bakori also urged residents to provide timely and credible information to the Police and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
