Kano mob lynches assailant who killed muezzin

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that a heinous crime was committed at the Yusuf Garko Mosque, located in the Maraba Quarters of Kano, where Ladan Malam Zubairu, a resident of the area, was brutally killed by an assailant. The suspect was subsequently lynched by a mob and burnt.

An eyewitness account explained that the suspect went to Mallam Zubairu’s house and slaughtered him, after which he allegedly severed the victim’s throat. The suspect, immediately pursued by an angry mob, was beaten to death and set ablaze.

The police further confirmed that the mob also set fire to the suspect’s residence, resulting in the destruction of property after he was killed.

Hundreds of youths who killed the assailant reportedly took to the streets of the area, warning that anyone who committed a similar offence would be killed instantly.

However, Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, stated that normalcy has since been restored in the area, with security personnel deployed to maintain law and order.

He noted that the police investigation team recovered the victim’s throat from the suspect’s pocket, and that both bodies have been taken to the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, Kano, where they were certified dead and are awaiting autopsy.

Kiyawa added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the incident, with a view to bringing all perpetrators to justice.

“The police command appeals to the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies as the investigation unfolds. We urge citizens to provide any information that may aid the investigation and assure them that all information will be treated with confidentiality,” he said
