Kano Killings: Father Backs Death Penalty for Son

The father of Umar Auwalu, the principal suspect in the killing of a housewife and her six children in Kano, has called on the government to ensure a swift trial and, if found guilty, the imposition of the death penalty.

Speaking during a Hausa-language radio programme in Kano on Monday, Mallam Auwalu said his son should not be allowed to remain in society, describing him as a danger to public safety. “People like Umar should not be allowed to live among others. They should be eliminated to allow for a sane environment,” he said.

He also alleged that Umar may be linked to another murder, claiming he suspects his son was involved in the killing of the younger sister of a woman in the Darayi Hausa area last month.

Mallam Auwalu urged security agencies and the government not to delay the trial, warning that prolonged detention could lead to political interference. He said justice must be served to deter future crimes and restore public confidence.
