Kalu pushes for new seaport in Nigeria’s South East

Benjamin Kalu

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ben Kalu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to approve the establishment of a seaport in Nigeria’s South East to boost trade in the region. Kalu made the appeal on Friday during a reception at Enyimba International Stadium in Abia State, held in Tinubu’s honor after inaugurating several projects.

Kalu emphasized that Southeasterners, being largely traders, would benefit significantly from a seaport to enhance commerce. He also raised concerns over the recent demolition of houses and offices of Igbo residents in Lagos, calling for amicable resolutions and urging the president to engage the Lagos State government to help affected individuals regularize their properties.

Speaking on governance, Kalu highlighted the importance of partnership between the federal and state governments. Despite being an APC member, he pledged his support for Abia State Governor Alex Otti, commending the state’s ongoing projects and appealing for continued development initiatives.
