Southern Kaduna youths have rejected the three-zone political arrangement in Kaduna State, demanding a new two-zone structure, North and South, with rotational governorship to ensure equity and fairness.
The demand was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the Southern Kaduna Renaissance Front (SKRF) 2025 Young Persons Political Conference held in Kaduna on Wednesday.
The communiqué, signed by Comrade Sabastine Luka and Pastor Jerome Waziri, insisted that the three-zone formula was designed to weaken Southern Kaduna’s political strength.
“The days of minority politics are over. In 2027, Southern Kaduna will no longer accept crumbs, we are going for the governorship,” the communiqué stated.
Delegates argued that with 12 local government areas, a landmass of over 26,000 square kilometres, and what they claimed as more than half of the state’s population, Southern Kaduna has the numbers to dictate the political future of Kaduna.
The youths also criticised Governor Uba Sani, accusing him of sidelining the region in his appointments and treating Southern Kaduna as a political afterthought.
While some participants advocated working with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to attract federal development, others pushed for a more independent stance, warning that Southern Kaduna must position itself as the bride all major parties will seek in 2027.
The communiqué further urged politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party in the region to abandon what it called “selfish opposition politics” and rally behind the collective demand for power shift, or face political irrelevance.
“Southern Kaduna will no longer be defined as a minority, but as a power bloc that must be reckoned with.” The communique stated.
