Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has pledged to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing of seven individuals in Akinlalu town, Ife North Local Government Area. The governor made the vow on Monday through Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, during a government delegation’s visit to the affected community.
Governor Adeleke’s statement followed widespread outrage from residents mourning the victims and demanding justice. Alimi emphasized that the administration would not tolerate criminality and is committed to a thorough investigation. “Governor Ademola Adeleke condemns in strong terms the killing in Akinlalu. The government will ensure a thorough investigation, and those responsible will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed that three suspects have already been arrested and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo, with further arrests expected. Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi stated that all claims, including allegations of murder, assault, gun snatching, and impersonation, would be carefully verified to establish facts and ensure justice.
Other state officials, including Attorney General Barrister Jimi Bada and Governor’s Special Adviser on Security Barrister Samuel Ojo, assured residents that the government is committed to holding all perpetrators accountable. Local leaders, including Oba Oloyede Aborisade and youth leader Adeboye Musbau, called for swift action and compensation for the victims’ families.
The incident reportedly involved a violent clash between suspected hoodlums and Osun Amotekun personnel, who were attempting to recover confiscated weapons. Three suspected hoodlums were killed during the encounter, according to Amotekun, but police are investigating to verify all claims. Authorities have vowed that all suspects will be apprehended, no matter where they are hiding, to ensure justice for the victims.
