President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to screen and confirm the newly appointed service chiefs.
The request was contained in a letter read on the Senate floor on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to the letter, the nominees include General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General Waheedi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff; Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke as Chief of Air Staff; and Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
After reading the letter, Akpabio referred the nominees to the Committee of the Whole for screening and confirmation, scheduled for next week.
The development comes a day after President Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with the newly appointed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
