A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Deji Doherty, has challenged claims that former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Bode George, is among the founding fathers of the PDP.
Speaking during an interview on TVC, Doherty stated that although George had played a role in the party, he should not be regarded as one of its founding members.
Doherty also recalled supporting George while he was serving a prison sentence at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre. According to him, George was seriously ill at the time, and he personally provided a significant portion of the assistance that helped sustain him during his incarceration.
He added that George’s wife was aware of the support he provided and stressed that he did not feel betrayed by the PDP chieftain.
“When Bode George was in Kirikiri prison, I took care of half of what kept him alive there. He was sick, and his wife knows,” Doherty said.
“I don’t feel betrayed. He has not done anything to me. If he had done something to me, it would be different.”
Doherty further urged George to make room for younger members of the PDP to take on greater responsibilities and contribute to the party’s development.
“It is for him to let the younger ones grow. He has used up our own time,” he added.
