Drama erupted at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday as IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, vehemently opposed the delivery of judgment in his terrorism trial.
The proceedings turned chaotic after the court dismissed several of Kanu’s applications, including his request to submit a final written address.
At the previous hearing, Justice James Omotosho had waived the requirement for final written submissions, explaining that the court would rely solely on the arguments and materials already on record.
Kanu expressed extreme displeasure at this decision, arguing that it denied him a fair opportunity to present his case comprehensively.
The tension escalated further when the judge reminded Kanu that he retained the right to appeal the court’s decision.
Kanu reacted angrily, shouting repeatedly, “You don’t know the law… Don’t touch me… God will punish you now and forever.”
His outburst caused a disruption in the courtroom, making it impossible for proceedings to continue.
Attempts by Justice Omotosho and court security officers to calm him down proved unsuccessful. In the end, Kanu had to be physically removed from the courtroom by security operatives to restore order.
The drama has reignited discussions around courtroom conduct and the handling of high-profile terrorism cases in Nigeria.
