Jos:The Govt Knows the Bandits’ Hideout and Can Wipe Them Out;Instead,They Call Them Brothers—Arnold

During an interview on News Central TV, former Republican mayor Mike Arnold asserted that the ongoing presence of armed groups in Jos is rooted in systemic failures and networks that illicitly benefit from unrest.

Arnold argued that authorities are fully aware of the identities and locations of those responsible for violent acts, yet decisive action has been consistently lacking. His remarks come amid rising security concerns in Jos and surrounding communities, which continue to face recurrent attacks and instability.

According to Arnold, the persistence of these armed groups is not simply due to operational challenges but is actively sustained by individuals and structures that profit from chaos rather than seek to resolve it. He stated:

“They know where these terrorists are. They know their names. They could wipe them out if they wanted to, but instead, they call them brothers and sons because they are ideologically in line with them and they benefit from this activity. It is a horrific situation. The innocent people are cannon fodder for their conquest and for their greedy skimming of the resources of the nation.”

He emphasized that meaningful resolution of the crisis requires strong political will, transparency, and a commitment to dismantle the networks that enable violence. Arnold suggested that without confronting the entrenched interests that benefit from insecurity, efforts to stabilize the region will remain limited.

His comments contribute to the ongoing discourse on security challenges in Nigeria, highlighting the need for more coordinated and effective responses to armed threats. Analysts and civil society actors have long called for comprehensive strategies combining intelligence, community engagement, and political accountability to address the root causes of violence and protect vulnerable populations in conflict-prone areas..
