Former member of the House of Representatives, Dachung Bagos, has expressed concern over the absence of arrests and what he described as limited operational response by security agencies following recent killings in Plateau State.
Bagos made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, March 30, 2026, where he addressed developments in the aftermath of the attack in Jos.
Speaking on accountability, he said: “Nobody is in jail today as a result of the killings on the Plateau. I stand to be corrected because I know the issues. Nobody is in jail today. And that is why you can still have these things going on.”
He noted that eyewitness accounts had provided details that could aid investigations, including the mode of operation and movement of the attackers. “And it means we have that, look, these people we can identify. We have eyewitnesses have identified the language. Eyewitnesses have identified that these people came on bikes. Eyewitnesses have identified that this was the route that these people have taken.”
Bagos also questioned the response timeline and communication from security authorities, stating that no operational updates had been issued within 24 hours of the incident. “But 24 hours after this attack, there is no any statement from the hierarchy of the security agencies that, look, we have followed the route. We have traced the motorbikes’ tires.”
He added, “We can now see where they are. We are chasing them. We are making arrangements. We have condoned the area. We are now searching the hills. We have no any operational statement from security agencies that these are the steps we are taking to be able to arrest these people. None of this.”
He emphasized the need for detailed operational communication rather than general statements. “We don’t want political statement. We don’t want the usual PPRO statement. We want operational statement. What are those operational statements that the security agencies are doing?”
Bagos further highlighted the role of collaboration between government and security agencies in addressing the situation. “Joining forces with government because government can give them the logistics to be able to execute this. But what are those operational steps that the security agencies from their intel that now they have been able to find those hills, to be able to trace because the route that they have taken is supposed to be marked today.”
He added that forensic processes should already be underway, saying: “As of today, for forensic analysis, they are supposed to be marked today that, look, this is this. Where are the shells of those bullets? Those shells of the bullets were supposed to have been traced.”
Bagos concluded by raising concerns about security gaps, stating: “So it is so porous that these people come in, go out, nothing is being done.”
