Jonathan hails Attah’s achievements @ 87

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has hailed the former governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah for his numerous achievements at 87 years.

Jonathan expressed the honour at the presentation of a book titled “Attah Architect of a New Democratic Dawn” on Thursday in Abuja.

Describing Attah as living purposeful life, the former President said his contribution to the evolution of modern Akwa-Ibom State remained indelible.

“I am pleased to join all of you, who have come out here today in paying tribute to His Excellency a visionary leader, an accomplished professional, and a remarkable person on this occasion of his 87th birthday.

“As governor, he planned meticulously and executed decisively

“The foundation he laid in infrastructure, education, urban development, economic strategy, and institutional reforms continue to bear fruits decades after he has left,” he said.

Jonathan noted that the former governor demonstrated that leadership is not about occupying an office, but about transforming the lives and aspirations of people.

He said, “beyond politics, Attah is a man of character, his integrity and sense of duty have inspired many, including myself, and his mentorship has lifted leaders across generations”.

He, then, prayed that the Almighty would continue to bless him  with wisdom and many more years of grace and fulfillment.

Gov. Bassey Eno, delivering a goodwill message, emphasised that Attah’s visionary leadership established foundational principles that shaped the emergence of modern Akwa Ibom.

Eno who was epresented by his Deputy, Akon Eyakenyi,  noted that at 87, Attah’s remarkable contributions to Akwa Ibom remained impactful and enduring within the memory.

He stressed that Attah demonstrated that genuine leadership that extended beyond occupying office, emphasising that he nurtured successors and built institutions that ultimately strengthened society.

The governor recalled Attah’s leading role in national debates, particularly his persistent advocacy against the onshore-offshore dichotomy and his unwavering commitment to the fight for resource control.

He highlighted his enduring legacies such as the Victor Attah Airport, Akwa Ibom power projects, Akwa Ibom University, ICT revolution, hospitality developments, and youth training initiatives.

Prof. Effiong Johnson, reviewing the book at the event, explained that it contained 473 pages, 19 chapters, and 117 photographs.

He added the ɓook explored multiple themes, including the bold rebellious character that defined former governor’s political journey and administrative decision-making.

Attah thanked God for His mercies while appreciating the numerous dignitaries that graced the occasion.

Highlighting on the contents of the book, he underscored the need for one not to forget his or her root because of present status.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
