Jigawa State took a major step in the fight against drug abuse on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, with the signing of Executive Orders to strengthen the campaign against illicit drugs.
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, retired Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, joined Mallam Umar A. Namadi, Governor of Jigawa State, at the Government House in Dutse for the ceremony.
During the event, Governor Namadi signed Executive Orders on the Campaign Against Drug Abuse and inaugurated the Task Force on Drug Abuse and Societal Orientation. The state also unveiled the campaign theme: “Jigawa United Against Drug Abuse.”
Speaking at the event, top officials of the NDLEA who were in attendance alongside state government officials pledged stronger collaboration to rid communities of drug abuse and its effects on youth and families.
As part of his visit, Gen. Marwa paid a courtesy call on His Royal Highness Alhaji Hamim Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi, Emir of Dutse, where discussions focused on the role of traditional institutions in drug prevention and community orientation.
The NDLEA boss also inspected the site for the proposed NDLEA Barracks in Jigawa State, a project expected to improve the welfare and operational capacity of personnel deployed in the state.
With the new Executive Orders and Task Force in place, Jigawa joins the growing number of states partnering with the NDLEA to tackle drug abuse through policy, enforcement, and public sensitization.
