Iyorchia Ayu: I Spent 3hrs Begging Him,Warned Him If PDP Is Destroyed You Will Take Blames—Ohuabunwa

According to a report by Channels TV, on Monday March 9, 2026, a Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Dr. Sam Ohuabunwa, has opened up about a private, three-hour meeting he held with the former National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, warning that the party was on a path to self-destruction.

Speaking on the internal fractures that have plagued the PDP since the 2023 general elections, Ohuabunwa revealed that he made a personal, patriotic attempt to mediate the crisis long before it reached a breaking point.

Ohuabunwa described a lengthy encounter where he pleaded with the then-Chairman to make concessions to maintain party unity. According to the former aspirant, the meeting was born out of a desire to protect the party’s future rather than any external political interest.

“I remember and Sam Anyanwu will remember the day I came to see Senator Iyorchia Ayu and I spent 3 hours begging him to try and, make some concessions for bringing this party together,” Ohuabunwa stated.

He noted that during this intense dialogue, he was blunt about the consequences of the leadership’s refusal to compromise.

“I warned Senator Iyorchia Ayu that when this party is destroyed you will take one of the blames,” he said.

Ohuabunwa further clarified that his visit was often misunderstood by the party leadership. He claimed that Senator Ayu initially viewed his intervention with suspicion, suspecting that he was acting as a proxy for other political interests within the PDP.

“I haven’t seen him since to remind him and if Sam Anyanwu is watching me he will know that it was him that came to save uh me because Senator Iyorchia Ayu thought I came to speak on behalf of other people,” Ohuabunwa explained, referencing the current National Secretary of the party.

He emphasized that his motives were rooted in his personal commitment to the country and the democratic process.

“You know I came to speak on myself because I am a patriot and a dedicated person.”See_More…
