Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties, accusing Nigerian politicians of failing to engage in serious policy-driven campaigns.
Agbakoba made the remarks during an interview on Sahara TV, where he examined the quality of political engagement in the country. The senior lawyer expressed concern that opposition politics has been largely devoid of meaningful discussions about governance, reforms, and clear alternatives to the ruling party.
In the interview, he said, “I have never heard any serious policy discussions from any politician. Going and engaging the people like Obama did. House to house campaigns and telling them this is what I can do.” Agbakoba referenced former United States President Barack Obama as an example of issue-based grassroots campaigning, noting that Nigerian politicians rarely adopt such an approach.
According to him, political actors in Nigeria tend to focus more on rhetoric and political maneuvering rather than presenting structured policy proposals to citizens. He argued that Nigerians deserve leaders who can clearly outline their plans on key issues such as economic development, security, education, and institutional reform.See_More…
