According to a report by The Jerusalem Post on February 28, 2026, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a surprise military operation against Iran early Saturday morning, as Iranian state media reported multiple explosions heard across Tehran.
As the strikes began, the IDF issued a nationwide alert instructing residents to remain close to protected areas and shelters amid fears of a possible retaliation. The military emphasized preparedness measures for civilians across the country, warning of potential incoming attacks.
“This is a proactive alert to prepare the public for the possibility of missiles being launched toward the State of Israel,” the IDF said.
A security source confirmed to Walla that the United States was involved in the strikes, suggesting coordination between Washington and Jerusalem during the operation. However, officials did not immediately disclose details regarding the extent of American participation.
Meanwhile, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was reportedly moved out of the capital before or during the attack. An Iranian official confirmed to Reuters that Khamenei had been transferred to a “secure location,” indicating heightened concern among Iranian leadership following the strikes.
Iranian media outlets reported that targets included facilities linked to the IRGC Intelligence Directorate, along with additional locations in central Tehran. In response to the developments, Iranian authorities closed the country’s airspace as a precautionary measure.
An Israeli security official told Reuters that planning for the operation had taken months, with the final timing determined several weeks in advance. Defense sources said the mission, dubbed “Shield of Judah,” aims to “remove threats to the Israeli home front, with an emphasis on missile launchers and unmanned aerial vehicle bases.”
As of now, no missiles have been launched toward Israel following the strikes.See_More…
