The Kwara State Sports Commission has reaffirmed its support for the growth of Para-sports in the State to ensure that People Living With Disabilities (PLWD) are motivated to contribute to the growth and development of the society.
A statement issued by the Press Secretary, Kwara State Sports Commission, Saheed Abdullahi, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, made the pledge at the International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities 2025, organized by the State Ministry of Social Development.
The event, themed “Fostering Inclusive Societies For Advancing Social Progress”, featured empowerment, sports and trade fair held at the George Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
Mogaji pointed out that the State is blessed with best para-athletes making waves in the global sports arena, commending Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his financial and moral support to sports in the State.
The Executive Chairman applauded the Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, for commemorating the International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities with sports, empowerment and trade fair to accord them a special sense of belonging.
The International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities’ commemoration saw Team Kwara winning Handball match 3-0 against Team Ekiti.
The occasion also featured an exhibition of products, which the people living with disabilities produced.
At the event, the State government presented wheelchairs, crutches, walking sticks and cash donations to the beneficiaries.
