The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has commenced training for state coordinating supervisors of its Electoral Operations Support Centre, as part of efforts to improve the speed and accuracy of incident reporting ahead of the 2027 general election.
The training, organised by INEC’s Electoral Operations Department, is designed to equip the supervisors with the skills needed to coordinate EOSC activities and train personnel who will support electoral operations during the election.
Speaking at the programme, Deputy Director, Operations, Jibril Mohammed, who represented the Director of Electoral Operations, Isa Magaji, said the initiative would help build teams capable of providing timely and reliable support across the country.
INEC stresses accurate, timely reporting
Mohammed described the EOSC as an important platform for monitoring developments from the field and ensuring emerging operational challenges are escalated to the appropriate authorities.
“Every report represents a situation affecting people,” Mohammed said, noting that calls and dashboard entries could involve electoral personnel, materials, processes or voters who require guidance and practical intervention.
He urged the supervisors to exercise sound judgement while coordinating their teams and ensure that the knowledge gained during the training was effectively transferred to personnel at the state level.
Mohammed said the success of the programme would ultimately depend on how confidently and effectively the personnel trained by the supervisors perform their duties during the elections.
Supervisors urged to prepare for field challenges
He also stressed the importance of accurate and timely reports, saying they should clearly state what happened, where and when it occurred, the action already taken and the current status of the incident.
The INEC official further urged supervisors to treat field officers with calmness, respect and helpfulness, particularly when they are working under pressure.
The training is expected to strengthen INEC’s operational response and improve the management of emerging challenges during the 2027 elections.
