The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false a viral graphic circulating online claiming that March 26 has been fixed as the deadline for government officials intending to contest elections to resign.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Friday, the electoral body said the information did not originate from the commission and described the graphic as misleading and unverified.
INEC urged the public, media organisations, and political stakeholders to disregard the message entirely, stressing that it was not issued by the commission.
The electoral body reiterated that all official announcements regarding electoral matters are communicated only through its verified channels.
According to INEC, these include its official website — inecnigeria.org — its verified social media platforms, and authorised press releases.
The commission advised citizens to always confirm election-related information through these channels and refrain from sharing unverified content capable of causing confusion among the public.
INEC also reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate, timely and transparent information on electoral matters.
