Governor Bala Mohammed has expressed deep concern over the state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the party as being in disarray despite ongoing reconciliation efforts. He made the remarks in Bauchi while responding to comments by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
According to a report by The Nigerian Tribune, the meeting took place at the Government House in Bauchi, where political stakeholders gathered to discuss the possibility of aligning with the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reacting to Lawal’s call for unity among opposition forces, Mohammed acknowledged that the PDP is currently facing internal instability.
“Sadly, as a leader in the PDP, we have found ourselves really in a very serious ambivalence, where our party is headless, and of course, I have pursued all avenues for reconciliation, but it has not worked, and our people are putting me under extreme pressure,” he said.
The governor revealed that committees have been set up at both the national and state levels to evaluate political options, including possible realignment.
Mohammed noted that the ADC is emerging as a strong alternative, describing it as a viable and increasingly acceptable platform for political collaboration.
Earlier, Lawal said his visit was at the instance of former Senate President David Mark, urging opposition leaders to unite in order to mount a formidable challenge in 2027. He warned that failure to do so could have serious consequences for the country’s future.
