In Asokoro Cell Where I Was,There Were 4 Men From Ebonyi; They’ve Been In Cell More Than 33Days-Ohiri

Tracynither Nicolas Ohiri has drawn attention to alleged human rights concerns in Nigerian detention facilities following her release on bail today in Abuja. Ohiri, who had accused David Umahi of owing her N250 million for over 12 years, was recently arrested and detained, sparking public debate.

Speaking to the press after her release, Ohiri described conditions in the Asokoro detention cell where she was held. “My conscience will not allow me not to inform Nigerians. In Asokoro cell where I was kept, there are 4 young men with families exported from Ebonyi state to Abuja here. They have been in cell for more than 33 days,” she said, highlighting what she described as extended detention without resolution or adequate attention to their circumstances.

Her statements suggest that some detainees face prolonged confinement under challenging conditions, raising questions about due process and the treatment of individuals in custody. Ohiri emphasized her moral obligation to speak out, noting that her experience exposed broader systemic issues in the administration of justice.

The case involving her debt claim against Umahi, which reportedly spans over a decade, has attracted widespread attention. Advocates for citizens’ rights have criticized her detention and raised concerns about potential abuse of power and intimidation of individuals pursuing legitimate claims against influential figures.

Ohiri’s revelations have prompted calls for transparency, accountability, and reforms within law enforcement and detention facilities in Nigeria. She stressed that highlighting the plight of other detainees is essential to ensuring that ordinary citizens are treated fairly and humanely under the law.See_More…
