By Emmanuel Antswen

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Olatunji Disu, has directed police personnel in the Benue Police Command to flush out bandits out of the state before the end of 2026.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Ifeanyi Emenari, made the disclosure on Tuesday at the end of a police walk in Makurdi.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the walk is part of activities marking the 2026 Police Annual Week.

NAN also reports that the Command had on Monday carried out a sanitation exercise to clean up part of Makurdi township and provided free medical services to the Modern Market community.

Emenari said the IGP has ordered them to flush out all bandits out of the state before the end of the year.

He said he has also supported his directives with action by supporting the command with more manpower, logistics and an enabling environment to work.

He said the command has every reason to celebrate 2026 Police Week, not only because of their numerous achievements in the last year but also because of the deliberate efforts of the IGP in ensuring that peace returns to the state.

“So when we are celebrating the 2026 Police Week, we are celebrating improved security and improved collaboration with sister agencies to ensure that Benue citizens sleep with all eyes closed.

“We are celebrating the grace of God; the mercy of God upon us has been wonderful. We are celebrating our IGP for his unending efforts in ensuring that Benue has peace.

“The IGP has directed us to flush out all bandits out of the state before the end of this year and is backing it with actions.

“He has given us support, enablement, manpower and logistics to succeed. I want to appreciate him because of his interest in Benue, and this is manifesting and yielding positive results,” he said.

The CP also commended Gov. Hyacinth Alia for supporting the Force with courage and enabling an environment for them to succeed.

He said the governor has also ensured that all the 23 local government chairmen collaborate with the command for improved security.

Emenari specifically commended the Benue media over their exceptional reportage, adding that their neutrality was second to none.

He said the Benue media has contributed immensely in the fight against criminality and urged them to continue. (NAN) www.nannews.ng
